RATAN OF INDIA
“I don’t believe in taking right decisions. I take decisions and then make them right.”
On the ninth of October 2024, the entire nation was in a state of mourn. India had lost its Ratan.
Ratan Naval Tata (28 December 1937 – 9 October 2024) who is profoundly remembered as the
Ratan (Gem) of India, was an industrialist and the former chairperson of the Tata Groups. His
demise brought tears in every Indian’s eye and many even reflected his glorious life which was
filled with hard work, determination, passion and his never-ending love for the nation and its
people.
During Ratan Tata’s last rites, reporters were trying to capture every possible glimpse. On many
news channels, the glorious life of Rata Tata was discussed and many of his inspiring stories
being narrated. But, I believe that the most inspiring moment from his life was his last rites. His
demise gave a clear message: love your country so madly that after you die, the tri-colour itself
comes to honor you, live a life that after you die, people will still remember you and live a life that
after you die, your silence will narrate stories of your life.
We often talk about the greatness of Ratan Tata but, Tata himself never talked of greatness but
instead worked on great causes. The following extract is a perfect example for this. “Throughout
his career, he spoke about the country’s worrying cancer statistics: over 70% cases diagnosed
at advanced stages, severely limiting the chances of successful treatment.
Determined to change this, he set an ambitious target - to reverse the diagnosis ratio from30:70
to 70:30. To achieve this, Ratan Tata spearheaded, through Tata Trusts, the creation of a vast
network of cancer centers, daycare facilities, and screening kiosks across India” stated in a
newspaper of Times of India. He serves as an ideal that greatness doesn’t always needs to be
vaunted. But, whether we call Ratan Tata as Ratan of India or Titan of India it wouldn’t make much
of a difference.
The reason is not that both are referred to the same person but that it won’t have mattered
much to Ratan Tata himself. His simplicity and down to earth nature is what has inspired the
youth of the nation. To conclude, I would say that we are blessed to have such noble
personalities take birth and serve on our motherland. Ratan Tata’s poignant demise reminds us
that we all who are born have to leave this world, but, only those have served the purpose of their
lives can leave this world happily and without regret. So now the question is on you. What’s the
purpose of life?
Will you just live and die or will you achieve what you have dreamt of?
Legends like Ratan Tata will remind us that life is meaningless
without hard-work, determination, passion and fulfilling dreams.
