A guru is one who is heavy with knowledge. The English word “gravity” shares a common origin
with the Sanskrit word “guru.”
The genuine spiritual teacher has deeply understood the deception of material happiness.
The Bhagavad-Gita describes the guru as a self-realised soul who imparts transcendental knowledge
to disciples. In this article would like to put light on Importance of Guru Purnima

Hindus around the world are celebrating Guru Purnima, a day of immense significance in the
Sanatan Dharma tradition. This auspicious day is dedicated to honoring the importance of the
Guru, who plays a crucial role in guiding individuals on the path of knowledge and enlightenment.
Guru Purnima falls on the Full Moon Day (Purnima Tithi) in the month of Ashadh. Guru Purnima, also
known as Vyas Purnima. Guru Purnima is the day to worship your academic and spiritual gurus and
mentors who have lighted the path of your life with knowledge. Of all the purnimas this particular
one is dedicated to the guru.
Fundamentally, in terms of receptivity, different points in the Earth’s orbit around the Sun tend to
have certain qualities. There are certain days in the year when many sages and saints have found
their moment of enlightenment. They did not get enlightened because of those days – they were in
the process, they were close – but it easily blossoms on certain days because of a little assistance
from nature. This is the time of the year when the Adiyogi’s attention fell upon his first seven
disciples – the now celebrated Saptarishis.
In the yogic tradition, Shiva is not worshipped as a God, but is considered the Adiyogi – the First
Yogi, and as the Adi Guru, the First Guru from whom the yogic sciences originated. The most
important thing to do on Guru Purnima is take the blessings of your parents, elder siblings, teachers,
and all the mentors and other individuals who inspired and guided you. The term Guru Purnima
consists of Guru and Purnima meaning Guru and full moon respectively.
The word Guru is further made of 'Gu' and 'Ru' which means darkness and light respectively. Thus,
this implies that a Guru is someone who removes all the darkness in one's life and lights it up
through education and enlightenment.
